Now the Bereans were of more Noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
The character of the Bereans is that of a Christian. They were noble, received the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures daily.
Their practice of examining the scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true is our topic for discussion.
This raises the concern that either they were not sure of what Paul was saying or they wanted to convince themselves. Whatever their intensions were, they searched the scriptures every day. Do we also search the scriptures every day to hear from God before we leave our homes. Is there a time in the course of the day where we seek the face of God through His word.
The Psalmist makes a profound observation about those who mediate on the Word of God day and night. He said they are like a tree planted by streams of waters, which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he/she does prospers.
To meditate on the word of God is to think about it and deduce what the Word is saying to us and to live by it. Do we meditate on the word of God? Do we search the scriptures every day? Is there a time dedicated to God within the course of the day?
Let us pray
Lord help me to search and mediate upon Your word every day of my life in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
